A Guide to Free Image Hosting for Blog Design

There are quite a few ways to host your images for use on blogger and other free blog services.  I thought that I would show 2 options (my favorite 2) and let you decide which way works best for you.

Hosting Images in Blogger

This is my personal favorite way to host images.  Why? Because it is right there on your blog, no additional account needed!

Step #1:  The first thing that you need to do when hosting images on Blogger, is to Make a New Post.

Add a New Post in Blogger

Step #2:  Add the image(s) that you need to host in your post.

Add Your Images

Step #3:  Change your Image to Original Size.

Step #4:  Now you need to switch the the HTML Mode.

Switch to HTML mode in Blogger Post

Step #5:  Find the direct link to your image in your HTML.

This is what your image HTML will look like in a blogger postthe text that is Highlighted is your direct link (image url)If you would like to check to see if your image is correct.  Open a New Window or Tab in your Web Browser, and paste the direct link code there.  If it is not appearing, check to make sure that you selected the right url, and make sure that you did NOT select the quote marks.

Paste Image URL into a new browser window

So that’s it!  Now you can just save your post as a Draft, you do NOT need to Post it :)

Save and Close Blog Post

Hosting Images on Photobucket

If hosting your images on Blogger seems a little tedious, or confusing, then I would highly recommend using Photobucket.  It is simple, quick and easy to use.

Step #1:  Sign up for a FREE account at photobucket.com.

Step #2:  Once you are in, click on Upload Now.

Upload Now in Photobucket

Step #3:  Before you upload your image, click on “Customize your upload options“. (after you do this step, you will not have to do it again)

Customize your upload options in Photobucket

Select “Best Possible Quality (while staying 1mb or less)“.  The reason that you need to do that, is that if you upload an image that is larger in size than 1024px by 768px, Photobucket will size it down, and it will not appear the right size.

Best Possible Quality (while staying 1mb or less)

Step #4:  Upload your Image and Save it. (You can add a Title, Description, & Tags if you would like, but it is not necessary)

Select Photos and Video In PhotobucketSave and Continue to my album in Photobucket

Step #5:  To get your Direct Link (Image URL), simply roll your mouse over your image, and click on the text in the the box next to “Direct Link” and it will automatically copy the text, ready for you to paste it.

Copy your Direct Link Code in Photobucket

If you would like to check to see if your image is correct.  Open a New Window or Tab in your Web Browser, and paste the direct link code there.  If it is not appearing, check to make sure that you selected the right url.

Check Direct Link in your Browser

There you go!  Happy Image Hosting!

Dawn by Design

So I was going through some of the new requests submitted, and someone asked for a tutorial on how to add a post divider using the new templates.  So I did a little digging looking for a tutorial and I came across Dawn by Design’s Blogwear Tutorials.  The tutorials that she had were great, so I went ahead and just listed some of them on my Blogger Tutorial Page.
